‘Start Raphinha and James’: Leeds and Liverpool fans react to FIFA statement

Leeds United and Liverpool fans have been reacting to the news that their Brazilian players will now be able to feature in Sunday’s clash at Elland Road.

Raphinha, Fabinho, Alisson and several other South American Premier League footballers had all been in the centre of a club vs country storm after they rejected call ups to their respective national teams due to uncertainty over quarantine rules.

The Brazilian FA had been looking to impose a five-day ban on all players who opted against going on international duty, which would have ruled out the afore mentioned trio out of the two sides’ meeting in West Yorkshire.

But after strong opposition from the Premier League and English FA, an agreement has now been reached for all the affected players to feature in this weekend’s fixtures.

Here is what both the Leeds and Liverpool supporters have been saying following the announcement.

@ellandduck : “Sincerely hope this doesn’t affect his international chances in the future. He’s been caught in the middle of something ridiculous here.”

@j_is_my_name : “Ok. Throw him [Raphinha] in the middle, start Dan James and let’s batter them 3-0.”

@Slimbrick24 : “Is it weird that I’m a tiny bit disappointed with the Brazilians being allowed to play? Obviously having Raphinha available is huge for us but I think it would have given us an advantage if Alisson and Fabinho couldn’t play.”

@squidgerone : “Raphinha playing tomorrow surely means tomorrow’s starting 11 is as close to full strength as we can get.”

@bielsaball28 : “Woken up to the best news I could have hoped for, absolutely ecstatic!! Raphinha has been cleared to play for us Sunday.”

@KaneWatson4 : “Sounds daft but I’m a bit gutted Rapha can play tomorrow. Was rubbing my hands a bit with Adrian in goal and no Fabinho for Liverpool.”

@palilfc : “Fabinho is winning us this game.”

@adamkhairun_: “Great news. Fabinho is very crucial to the midfield.”

@realbennygplayz : “Alisson Becker in goal instead of Adrian and Fabinho available to dominate the midfield, what a relief should help a lot for our game vs Leeds.”

@Kev1Lfc: “Now Alisson starts ahead of Adrian, Leeds will have to scrap their game plan of shooting from anywhere they get possession of the ball.”
