Pundits detail why Leeds United are ‘tailor-made’ to bounce back from Man United defeat

Rio Ferdinand and Joe Cole both delivered the same verdict for the rest of Leeds United’s season after they lost 5-1 to Manchester United in Saturday’s early kick off.

The Whites were comfortably beaten at Old Trafford but the former England internationals claimed that there is no reason for their supporters to panic.

Speaking as part of BT Sport’s panel for the match, Ferdinand claimed that the mentality of Marcelo Bielsa’s side is far too strong to worry about relegation despite the heavy loss.

“I don’t worry about the Leeds team in terms of mentality and setting themselves up for the next game,” he said. “I haven’t seen them have big hangovers where there’s a lot of defeats that follow each other. They get a defeat, they brush themselves down and they go again.”

Joe Cole echoed the comments of his colleague, claiming that the players and the manager at Elland Road have too much quality to have any danger of staying in the bottom three.

He said: “They haven’t performed today but they will do, they’ve got a great manager, fantastic players and they’ll be okay.

“I think the Leeds team are tailor-made to bounce back because of the way they play. It’s easy for them to bounce back, they’ve done it before. I think it’ll be rocking next week at Elland Road.”

The 39-year-old also mentioned the impact of the Leeds supporters who were in full voice throughout the match. It was the first time they have been able to travel to an away stadium since their return to the Premier League last season.

“The Leeds fans more than any, you’ve got to think of the journey they’ve been on,” Cole said. “They’ve not seen their team come back to the Premier League.”

They will now be hoping to see their team get back to winning ways as they look forward to filling out Elland Road next weekend for the visit of Everton in their first home game of the season.
