Predicted Leeds United line-up as Whites prepare for Guiseley in first pre-season outing

Leeds United will get their pre-season schedule underway on Tuesday with their annual trip to AFC Guiseley.

The fixture against the National League North side is the first of four fixtures in five days with matches against Blackburn Rovers, Fleetwood Town and Real Betis to follow.

Leeds will then conclude their pre-season campaign with a trip to the Amsterdam ArenA, where they will face Dutch champions AFC Ajax, ten days before their season opener with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The last time Marcelo Bielsa’s side visited Nethermoor Park – the home of Guiseley – was in the summer of 2019, and although the two sides did not meet last year due to COVID-19, it is a regular fixture of the pre-season calendar.

In the previous meeting, Leeds ran out 2-1 victors thanks to goals from Helder Costa on his unofficial debut and Mateusz Bogusz.

The Whites have been back in pre-season training for almost four weeks now but Tuesday’s encounter will provide the players with their first 90 minute outing since the 3-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion on the final day of last season.

Due to the intense nature of the next week, Bielsa is expected to name a young side for the short trip across Yorkshire.

With Kiko Casilla having left the club and Kristoffer Klaesson’s move to Elland Road not yet complete, Elia Caprile is likely to start in goal for the Whites.

Cody Drameh featured in 21 of Leeds United U23s’ league games this season

Cody Drameh and Charlie Cresswell are both almost certainly expected to be named in the back four, and despite speculation linking him with a loan move away, Leif Davis could start at left back.

With Leeds still in the market for a new centre back at Under-23s level and Olly Casey now at Blackpool, Nohan Kenneh may be the man who slots in alongside Cresswell at the heart of defence, unless Marcelo Bielsa opts to use Pascal Struijk or one of his other senior centre-backs.

In midfield, Lewis Bate could be handed his debut following the completion of his move from Chelsea and is likely to be partnered with Jack Jenkins.

Sam Greenwood may also be named in the number ten role behind Joe Gelhardt, who is expected to lead the line.

Who starts out wide is up for debate as with Raphinha and Jack Harrison almost certainly set to play in Blackburn, Costa and Ian Poveda may instead feature in Guiseley ahead of the likes of Amari Miller and Crysencio Summerville.

Potential Leeds starting XI vs Guiseley:

Caprile; Drameh, Kenneh, Cresswell, Davis; Bate, Jenkins, Gelhardt; Poveda, Greenwood, Costa.
