Live weather updates as thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rain lash Leeds



Thunder and rain has begun falling on Leeds on a day where a yellow weather warning is in place for the city.

The Met Office has had a warning in place today (Thursday) for thunderstorms to hit Leeds and across Yorkshire following two days of glorious sunshine.

Rain has begun falling and there have been some thunder rolls but predictions are that it could get worse as the evening goes on.

The Met Office has a yellow warning in place for the city, saying: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms on Thursday have the potential to bring surface water flooding in a few places, and disruption to travel.”

They also warn that homes and businesses could be flooded and that lightning strikes or hail could cause damage to buildings.

The Met Office has also warned that flooding could effect traffic on the roads and public transport services.
