Live as bomb squad called to Beeston after ‘suspicious package’ found near school

The bomb squad has reportedly been called to a property in the Beeston area of Leeds after a “suspicious package” was found.

The army’s disposal team is currently at the scene in Barkly Road near St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School.

A large police cordon is in place and Old Lane has been closed in both directions between Jessamine Avenue and Barkly Road.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix reports: “Old Lane in both directions closed, slow traffic due to police incident between Jessamine Avenue and Barkly Road.

“Road was closed around 4.35pm.”

Residents in the area said officers were called after a “suspicious package” was found.

West Yorkshire Police have been approached for more information.
