Leeds United’s under-23 side were a joy to behold last season, rampaging to the PL2 Div 2 title having gone unbeaten at home.
Mark Jackson’s junior Whites were in excellent form throughout the campaign, going from strength to strength as the season wore on.
23-goal duo Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt were a particular highlight for the young side, as well as captain Charlie Cresswell and his defensive partner Cody Drameh.
It was hoped all four would be available to begin the 2021/22 campaign, but a knock picked up in the friendly win over Guiseley AFC last month rules Gelhardt out of this one.
Nevertheless, Jackson has named a strong side as they look to avenge their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Palace’s under-23s back in March.
During that game, Joe Gelhardt and Crysencio Summerville were booked early on by a rather overzealous referee.
Shortly thereafter, Summerville was shown a second booking, leaving the Whites – who were on an astounding winning run – with ten men for the remaining 70 minutes.
The game also marked a comeback from injury for Gaetano Berardi, who has since departed the club.
Leeds’ under-23 side began the 2020/21 campaign with a 4-0 defeat to Stoke City – a game most would choose to forget.
But, Jackson’s team rallied and were boosted by summer additions bedding into the squad.
This time around, the core of the team is well-versed in the Leeds United way of playing, as well as boasting bags of talent.
The integration of Amari Miller, Sean McGurk and Lewis Bate should be a seamless one, after they joined the club from Birmingham City, Wigan Athletic and Chelsea respectively this summer.
Here is how Mark Jackson has chosen his under-23 side to line-up this evening.
LEEDS UNITED U-23 XI: Kristoffer Klaesson, Cody Drameh, Charlie Cresswell (C), Kris Moore, Liam McCarron; Adam Forshaw, Lewis Bate, Jack Jenkins, Crysencio Summerville, Amari Miller; Joe Gelhardt
