Leeds United transfer rumours with Leo Hjelde mystery and Lewis O’Brien return

Leeds United continue to be linked with a new midfielder in the summer transfer window following their dismal opening-day defeat to Manchester United.

Kalvin Phillips absence from the starting eleven as a result of his staggered return from Euro 2020 has highlighted the need for reinforcements.

Marcelo Bielsa is also reportedly scouring the market for another winger to provide competition for both Jack Harrison and Raphinha.

The Whites will have to move swiftly if they are to bring any more players in with just two weeks before the closure of the transfer window.

Here are the latest Leeds transfer rumours.

Premier League duo chase Nandez

Tottenham and West Ham have reportedly also expressed an interest in Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nández.

Italian outlet Calciomercato.it claim Nández has a €36m (£30.5m) release clause, but the Serie A outfit are ‘willing to drop’ the price to €25-26m (£21.5m).

Italian champions Inter Milan reportedly made an attempt to sign the 25-year-old earlier this summer, but a loan approach with an option to buy was turned down.

Leeds have been linked with the Uruguayan international in recent days, and Cagliari are claimed to want either a guaranteed sale or an obligation to buy clause included in any loan arrangement.

O’Brien return

Lewis O’Brien could make his return from isolation for Huddersfield Town’s encounter with Preston North End on Tuesday night.

Leeds, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United have been among the Premier League clubs credited with an interest in the 22-year-old.

Head coach Carlos Corberan told the club’s website: “All the players from Saturday are still available. Lewis O’Brien, Lee Nicholls and Danel Sinani will all be available too.”

Hjelde omission

Celtic have left reported Leeds target Leo Hjelde out of their Europa League squad for the upcoming clash with AZ Alkmaar.

Reports suggest Bielsa’s side are closing in on a deal for the young Norwegian, who signed his current contract at Celtic Park.

Hjelde was included in the previous squad to face Czech side Jablonec but is a noticeable omission for the playoff round.
