Leeds United transfer rumours as defender deal ‘imminent’ following omission

The transfer window edges closer to slamming shut and Leeds continue to be linked with potential targets as they look to strengthen their ranks ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Junior Firpo remains the only summer signing set to compete for a place in Marcelo Bielsa‘s starting line-up but multiple prospects have been linked with coming through the doors at Elland Road.

And the sobering afternoon against Manchester United last weekend reinforced the need to bolster the ranks in order to improve on last season’s ninth-placed finish.

Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours.

Leo Hjelde deal ‘imminent’

Leeds United‘s deal to sign Leo Hjelde is imminent, according to Football Norge.

The Norwegian outlet tweeted: “It’s imminent. [He] Has been left out of both Celtic’s A and B squads since reports of Leeds interest reappeared.”

The 17-year-old missed Celtic ‘B’s score draw in the Scottish Highland League and was omitted from the squad to face AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday.

And the defender, who spent a large part of last season on loan with Ross County, already has decent experience at a senior level during his time in Scotland.

It has been said his participation with the Bhoys has been reduced as a result of the interest from Elland Road.

Nandez links not going away

Marcelo Bielsa’s interest in Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez don’t seem to pass as United eye quality in the centre of the park.

Reports via Football FanCast say that the Whites are exploring the possibility of triggering the 25-year-old’s £31million release clause.

Inter Milan are a team eyeing a move for the midfielder but United have reignited their interest in his services as they look to improve that area of the pitch with Yander Herrera and Lewis O’Brien linked with moves.

Danjuma agrees move despite Leeds comments

Villarreal have swooped in and agreed terms with Arnaut Danjuma, according to Fabrizio Romano.

This move comes despite his comments insisting he wants to move to Elland Road.

The Italian reporter tweeted: “Arnaut Danjuma to Villarreal, done deal and here we go! Total agreement for £20m to Bournemouth. Contract also agreed until June 2026.

“Danjuma will fly to Spain with his agent in the next hours in order to complete his medical and sign the deal.”

Previously, the 24-year-old had fuelled a move back to the Premier League following his comments on the Whites.

“Leeds is a bigger institution than Bournemouth, has a very nice history and they play in the Premier League,” the winger said.

“And I don’t think I can play another Championship season, I’ve outgrown the competition a bit. Leeds United would be a nice step.”

The wide position is one that they’re reportedly desperate to improve before the window slams shut on the 31st.
