The transfer window may have slammed shut in recent days but more information has come to light about Leeds’ deadline day business.
The Whites finally ended their pursuit of Daniel James, after the Wales international put pen to paper on a £25million move from Manchester United.
However, the deal was not quite as straightforward as Leeds’ tabling an offer of that magnitude.
There were also rumours suggesting that Helder Costa could have made the switch to the Championship, rather than opting to sign for Valencia.
Here’s the latest transfer rumours after deadline day.
Leeds saw two Dan James bids knocked back
The Athletic’s Phil Hay claims that Leeds made three bids placed for new signing Daniel James with their opening bid turned down by Manchester United.
Victor Orta is believed to have made three bids, with each bid increasing, before settling on a fee of £25million.
The 23-year-old was at risk of reduced game time at Old Trafford, after the arrival of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Whites quickly entered the race for the Wales international and came out triumphant, a stark contrast to their 2019 approach for the winger.
Sheffield United made ‘late approach’ for Helder Costa
Championship new boys Sheffield United made a late approach to take Helder Costa on loan for the season, according to The Athletic.
Instead the Portuguese winger opted to move to Valencia before the transfer window slammed shut.
Costa was impressive for Leeds and former club Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship, but has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.
His departure from Elland Road comes as no surprise to the Whites faithful after a poor outing in the Carabao Cup.
Paddy Kenny backs Dan James to kick on at Elland Road
Former Leeds United shot stopper Paddy Kenny has backed Dan James to kick on at Elland Road after completing his £25million move from Manchester United.
The ex-Whites goalkeeper has backed the Welsh winger to improve under Bielsa and says his former club will “Benefit” from his improved game time.
Kenny told Football Insider: “He’s been at Manchester United for two years. He almost went to Leeds before Man United.
“I think it’ll be a great signing for Leeds and for Dan James as well. It’ll be a good move for him.
“Playing under Bielsa at a club that’s looking to go forward. They’re a club that’s worked on the ground, bringing players in and looking progress from what they achieved last season.
“It’s a good move all round, I like the way he plays. I remember his debut for Manchester United. I was like: ‘Wow, what a player this lad is.’
“He’s just never got that chance, that consistent amount of games to show what he can do properly. I’m sure Leeds will benefit from that.
“I heard it’s about £25million. It shows they’re having a go, Leeds. Playing under Bielsa will be good for his development.”
