Leeds United target Lewis O’Brien missing for Huddersfield again after positive covid test

Leeds United target Lewis O’Brien was missing from the Huddersfield Town squad for the second week in a row following a positive Covid-19 test.

He was unavailable for the Terriers’ season-opening draw at Derby County last weekend and didn’t feature in their 5-1 defeat against Fulham today.

Along with three of his team-mates who also tested positive, the 22-year-old is said to be okay but it remains unclear whether he will be available for their next match on Tuesday night.

He has been the subject of continued interest from Leeds as they look to acquire back up for Kalvin Phillips. It is understood that Huddersfield have rejected at least one bid for O’Brien from the Whites as it was significantly lower than their asking price.

The Premier League side are expected to increase their previous offer which was reportedly between £2m and £3m as Huddersfield continue to hold out for £8m.

The English midfielder now has less than a year remaining on his contract at the club and leaves the Terriers in an awkward position with them knowing that his interest in a new deal is minimal.

After a worrying start to the new campaign, they won’t want to lose one of their best players but realise that they might have to cash in on him because of the risk that he will leave for free next summer.

Out of the two sides involved, Leeds are holding all of the cards and will continue to closely monitor the situation regarding the Huddersfield midfielder.
