Leeds United steward goes viral for giving young fan a boost to clap the team off the field

A young Leeds United fan was given a boost by a steward so he could clap his favourite players from the field last match.

Freddie Burnell, aged six, went to see the Whites beat Crewe Alexandra 3-0 in the League Cup at Elland Road yesterday.

After the match a steward lifted Freddie up so he could stand on the advertising hoarding at the side of the pitch and clap the team as they headed to the dressing room.

His mum Emma said the steward explained, “children need memories like this”.

Emma told LeedsLive: “He loved it. He was so happy.

“He’s been going since he was 11 days old, but we are not season ticket holders so it’s going to be difficult for us this season to go.”

Freddie attended his first ever Leeds United match at Elland Road six years ago, dressed in a teddy bear onesie.
