Leeds United send message to San Francisco 49ers ahead of NFL season opener

A number of Leeds United players wished the San Francisco 49ers the best of luck ahead of the start of their NFL campaign.

The business arm of the American Football team increased their ownership in the Whites to 37% in January of this year. This was a significant increase of the 15% stake they previously held in the club after investing back in 2018.

Like Leeds, the 49ers will be hoping to get their first win of the new campaign as they take on the Detroit Lions in their season opener in the Motor City.

In the most recent display of the transatlantic relationship between the two teams, plenty of Whites players featured in a video posted to the club’s Twitter account passing on their well wishes.

With Leeds fans slightly perplexed in the replies to the tweet, the 49ers were appreciative of the support.

‘Thanks you lads!’ was their response.

They will be hoping for a better season this time around after they were largely disappointing last term, finishing bottom of the NFC Western division.

The team based in San Francisco will take encouragement from their record away from their home stadium, Levi’s Stadium, ahead of their opening match.

They were victorious in five of their eight away fixtures last season compared to a poor record of just one win and seven defeats from eight matches at home.

Both the 49ers and Leeds will be desperate to pick up their first wins of the campaign as they both take to the field on Sunday afternoon.
