Leeds United news as Roy Keane makes Raphinha and Ronaldo comparison plus Solskjaer on Dan James

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Monday, August, 30.

Keane’s lofty Raphinha claim

Following Leeds’ 1-1 draw at Turf Moor, Roy Keane spoke to Sky Sports cameras and it’s fair to say he was impressed by Raphinha.

“If he didn’t have that work-rate then he wouldn’t be in that team,” Keane told Sky Sports.

“That’s first and foremost if you want to be a top footballer, we were talking about Ronaldo, you have to have that work-rate and desire.

“We have to be fair that all the Leeds players seem to have that, at the moment. They have a spring in their step – Leeds are the entertainers of the Premier League.”

The Brazilian winger had endured a quiet second half but was still instrumental in the equaliser with some sublime skill to beat Charlie Taylor and caused havoc in the box, leading to Patrick Bamford’s finish.

In the first half he had seen a glorious opportunity go begging as he seemed caught in two minds over whether to shoot for the corner or pass to Bamford and instead committed to neither, after being put through by Rodrigo.

Solskjaer gives Dan James update

Following the re-signing of Cristiano Ronaldo there had been speculation that long-term Leeds target, Daniel James might be made available as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now has an abundance of forwards at his disposal.

James started Manchester United’s 1-0 win at Molineux yesterday but following the game his manager spoke to the media, saying:

“There has been a couple of enquiries for some of our players,” said the Red Devils boss. “With the signing of Cristiano [Ronaldo] we might give less playing time to a few. Dan [James] is a Manchester United player at the moment.”

As reported by The Athletic, Leeds appear to be at the front of the queue for the player, who is a long-standing target of Marcelo Bielsa. However, it remains to be seen whether a loan or permanent deal would be preferable. There are some suggestions that James is unsure about a loan to a rival club.

Player ratings from Burnley

Leeds signed off for the upcoming international break with a 1-1 draw at Burnley, as they still await their first Premier League win of the season.

LeedsLive dished out their player ratings at Turf Moor.

Leeds’ top performer on the day was Kalvin Phillips, who put in a combative performance without very much help in the middle, even whilst having to play a large portion of the game with a yellow card.

Meanwhile, Spaniard Rodrigo was rated the lowest of the Leeds side. He had a bright start to the game with the ball at his feet but faded badly and had little to no effect on the game as Burnley began to take control.
