Here are the Leeds United morning headlines on Sunday, August 15, 2021.
O’Brien makes decision on next move
Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien would prefer a move to Leeds United over Crystal Palace, according to the Sun.
The two Premier League sides are expected to go head-to-head in another transfer battle after Palace pipped the Whites to the signing of Conor Gallagher earlier in the window.
The report also states that Leeds are readying a bid for around £7m for O’Brien, who has missed Huddersfield’s opening two Championship matches after testing positive for COVID-19.
Marcelo Bielsa has been keen on bolstering his midfield options throughout the summer and it now appears that 22-year-old O’Brien is edging ever closer to an exit from the John Smith’s Stadium.
Agbonlahor brands Leeds ‘naive’
TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has, once again, called on Marcelo Bielsa to adjust his tactics after Leeds United were beaten heavily at Old Trafford.
Despite a stunning Luke Ayling equaliser, an eight-minute spell that conjured three quickfire goals took the game away from Leeds and meant that the Whites left Old Trafford on the back of a thumping for the second consecutive season.
Speaking on the Radio station’s phone in show, Agbonlahor was responding to a Leeds fan who claimed Bielsa will relegate the Whites this season.
He said: “Leeds need to change their tactics for different games and they’ll get better results,” Agbonlahor said. “How can you lose 6-2 last season and have the same tactics this season?
“It’s naïve from Leeds. Pushing too many bodies forward, allowing Manchester United to have that many players go forward.
“You have a Mason Greenwood one v one, Paul Pogba one v one, Bruno Fernandes running through the midfield with no one following him.
“It doesn’t make a lot of sense and Leeds are going to get a lot of these defeats this season if they still play like that. You have to change your tactics for each game.
“It’s different if you’re playing Norwich, they’d probably get away with that. When you’re playing Manchester United, the first home game of the season, they’re always going to be on the front foot. Leeds need to change the way they play against bigger teams.”
Leeds supposedly reignite Nandez interest
Leeds United have reportedly reignited their interest in Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez, according to Tuttomercatoweb, via HITC.
The Whites have been long linked with a move for the Uruguayan international with Marcelo Bielsa known to be keen on adding a new midfielder to his ranks.
The report states that Italian champions Inter Milan have failed in their attempts to prise the 25-year-old to the San Siro and Leeds could therefore swoop in.
A fee of around £30m has been touted for Nandez and it that places real doubt over the deal, with Leeds very unlikely to match that asking price, with Lewis O’Brien a more sensible option.
