Leeds United headlines with potential deadline day departure as James move edges closer

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Tuesday, August, 31.

James move edging closer

After another summer of Daniel James being continuously linked with Leeds, it finally looks as though the Wales international’s move will be announced on Deadline Day.

Numerous reports have claimed that a fee in the region of £25m with add ons has been agreed between the Whites and Manchester United with the player expected to be completing his medical this morning.

It was always Marcelo Bielsa’s wish to bring in another winger this summer and with him being a long-term admirer of James, it seems like the perfect signing.

Signing may cause Raphinha change

With James joining the club to provide competition for Jack Harrison and Raphinha, there may even be a way that all three players can be accommodated in the starting XI.

Rodrigo has struggled in the central position behind Patrick Bamford and the solution could be to move his Brazilian team mate into the so-called ‘number 10’ role.

No Premier League player has provided more assists than Raphinha since his debut in the competition at the start of last season. With his tendency to seamlessly drift infield, starting the 24-year-old in a more central role could be the key to Bielsa being able to field all of his most proficient attackers into the team.

James arrival may lead to departures

Whilst the signing of James will be welcomed by Leeds supporters, it may not be so well received amongst his new team mates.

With the Welsh winger joining Harrison and Raphinha, it means that Helder Costa has been pushed further down the pecking order and may lead to him looking for a last-minute move of his own.

The Athletic’s Phil Hay claimed that the Portuguese wideman might be one to watch on Deadline Day with Valencia reportedly waiting in the wings to arrange a swift deal.
