Leeds United fans say the same thing about Raphinha after display vs Everton

Leeds United fans were delighted with Raphinha’s goal and performance, as he helped earn the Whites a point in their 2-2 draw with Everton.

It was the first full attendance at Elland Road in 18 months, and also fans’ first in the Premier League for 17 years and it didn’t disappoint.

Down 2-1 with less than 20 minutes left, United’s Brazilian winger received the ball on the far side, took a touch inside and fiercely curled his left-footed effort into the corner past the diving Jordan Pickford.

The 24-year-old‘s future at the Whites was a cause for speculation for most of the transfer window prior to the beginning of pre-season, but Marcelo Bielsa retained his services, offered him a new deal and may prove to be one of the most important dealings this summer.

As fans took their seats at Elland Road in a much-anticipated return, they were left dazzled by the quality of the former Rennes midfielder.

The Leeds faithful noticed that Raphinha has earned a knack of scoring against the Toffees as his fierce strike was his third goal in as many games against the team from Merseyside.

He also received praise on Match of the Day with Danny Murphy waxing lyrical over his performance on Saturday.

“Raphinha was the man for me, the whole 90 minutes was demanding the ball, brave on the ball,” Murphy told the BBC.

“I’m surprised he only got six goals last season with his ability he should be doubling that this season. Wonderful left foot, really direct and I like it when he comes short, these are the types of risks as well you see too many times players playing safe but not him.

“It’s a tremendous strike technically. It’s that side foot and Pickford had no chance and the game deserved a goal like that.”

It was an end-to-end game at Elland Road filled with tension and controversy, namely the decision to award a penalty to the visitors after Darren England viewed the VAR monitor and adjudged Liam Cooper to have held Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s shirt.

Mateusz Klich scored the equaliser for Leeds after combining with Patrick Bamford.

And it was the first points on the board for United after their disappointing opening day defeat to Manchester United.

Raphinha will be hoping to continue his form in the league next week as his side travel to Turf Moor to play Burnley.
