Leeds United 2021/22 kit latest as club confirm retail agreement

Leeds United fans are eagerly awaiting news on their new kit for the 2021/22 season.

The Whites have welcomed in four new additions this summer, with Jack Harrison and Junior Firpo acquired to immediately bolster Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

Whilst Leeds plot their next move in the market, the void of genuine transfer reports has been filled by queries over the club’s new strip.

As always, there have been leaks aplenty on the new Adidas kit, both home and away, but there has been nothing official from the club to date.

Manchester United’s new home shirt for the new campaign was confirmed on Thursday morning, which they will wear when the two sides open their Premier League accounts on August 14.

Here’s a round-up of everything we know about Leeds’ potential new threads, ahead of a trip to Old Trafford in less than a month.

New retail agreement

Leeds United have confirmed that JD Sports will continue to be the club’s official retail partner for the 2021/22 Premier League campaign.

The partnership with the global sports brand comes with just under four weeks until the start of the new season and aims to promote the club to an even wider audience.

Replica kits and training wear will be stocked in JD high street stores across Europe, Asia and the USA as well as through their website in a bid to attract more younger supporters.

The chairman of JD Sports, Peter Cowgill, was excited after announcing the extended deal.

“”We’re delighted to renew our partnership with Leeds for the forthcoming season,” he said. “The positive intent shown by the club both on and off the field is something which we want to be associated with and we wish them every success in the new campaign.”

Paul Bell, the club’s Executive Director, was keen to stress how such a partnership will benefit the club’s long-term plans as a global brand.

He said: “JD has an impressive portfolio of over 3,000 stores across 20 International territories including some key target markets for the club.

“The extension of our agreement will help the club to broaden its global retail footprint and allow Leeds fans easier access to our merchandise on the high street.”

Supporters of the club will be hoping that this news is swiftly followed by an announcement regarding the kits for the upcoming season.

Who are the manufacturer and sponsor?

Last year saw Adidas link up with Leeds for the first time in their history, signing a five-year deal with the club, in what was a record-breaking agreement for the Elland Road side.

This means the German manufacture will be providing the new kits this season and for the next three campaigns.

The sponsor on the front of the shirt will also be the same, with the club signing a ‘multi-year’ arrangement SBOTOP in what was the largest commercial deal in the club’s history when it was signed last summer.

What have Adidas said?

The window for the official release of the new kit is narrowing, but with the final design confirmed for several months now, various leaks around the world are springing up.

Adidas have already given a design framework for Leeds United fans.

“Pure Leeds United FC. When Adidas designed this home football jersey, we went for clean and classic.

“Yellow and blue details are taken from the club’s badge include a club name sign-off under the back collar.”

When did Leeds release their kit last year?

It’s tough to use last year’s release dates as a precedent, given the late start of the season and the fact Leeds didn’t know which division they would be playing in until July.

However, the home shirt came out on August 19, just less than a month before the new season started. The away shirt followed on September 4 and the third kit on September 30.

Potential leaks

As you’d expect, there’s been a lot of leaks surfacing around the internet.

So far, three purported designs have appeared on the website Footyheadlines.com, which has created a niche for itself in being the leading leak site.

A leaked home design was first to emerge in April, which featured a traditional, simple design with yellow Adidas stripes on the shoulders.

However, a brand new link emerged on Thursday, July 1 which features a similar design to the previous home shirt leak, but with a button-up collar:

As far as the away and third strips go, the away kit has been touted as ‘electricity yellow’.
