Junior Firpo has revealed he has tested positive for coronavirus and has been isolating at home.
Leeds United’s new signing from Barcelona was absent from Marcelo Bielsa’s starting XI ahead of a crucial Premier League clash against Burnley at Turf Moor.
Many fans speculated about his absence with some concerned he had picked up an injury.
But Firpo was quick to take to social media in order to quash the speculation and reveal the true reason for his absence.
Speaking to his Twitter followers, the Leeds United full-back revealed he tested positive for Covid-19 and has had to quarantine with his family at home which is why he cannot be available for Leeds.
“Hello everyone, a few days ago I tested positive. After some tough days, both my family and I are well and still isolated. I won’t be able to help my team today but I will support you from home!” Firpo tweeted.
Leeds will be looking to secure their first victory of the season after bouncing back against Everton last weekend and securing a 2-2 draw.
They will be positive about getting a result considering they beat Burnley 4-0 away from home towards the end of last season.
Firpo has looked bright in Leeds colours so far since his arrival at Elland Road, and his presence will be missed in the squad. However, with Leeds set to be given two-weeks off due to the international break commencing on Monday, the Spanish U21 international could be available to face Liverpool on September 12th which will be a huge boost for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Leeds will be hoping no one else contracted the virus with Mateusz Klich also missing due to testing positive for Covid-19.
