How the bookmakers see Leeds United’s transfer window panning out as winger verdict issued

It has been a quieter summer transfer window second time around for Leeds United so far.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have so far spent in the region of £25m on deals for Junior Firpo, Kristoffer Klaesson, and a permanent transfer for Jack Harrison.

All three recruits are aged 25 and under, and have been added to the first-team squad ahead of the new campaign which kicks off at Old Trafford on Saturday.

It is a noticeable drop-off in spending from the last summer window, which saw Leeds splash almost £100m ahead of their return to the Premier League – although another free-spending summer was never on the cards.

Bielsa’s squad is arguably on a par with the team that finished the 2020/21 campaign strongly to secure an impressive ninth-placed finish.

However, this does not mean Leeds are finished with their business in the current window. The addition of a central midfielder continues to be a priority, although the pursuit for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher ended in disappointment.

The bookmakers also consider Leeds to be in the mix for numerous transfer targets in the the remaining weeks of the window.

Here are the names SkyBet continue to credit Bielsa’s side with an interest in this summer:

Adama Traore – 2/1

Leeds were recently linked with a speculative £30m move for the Wolves winger who has two years left on his contract at Molineux.

The rumours have since quietened down, but Bielsa’s side are still considered the favourites for a deal ahead of the likes of Tottenham (4/1), Chelsea (7/1), and Liverpool (8/1).

Daniel James – 7/2

The signing that never was. James’ future at Old Trafford is reportedly uncertain, although Marcus Rashford’s injury could scupper a summer exit.

Leeds are tipped at 7/2 to rekindle their interest in the Welsh winger, while Leicester (6/4) and Brighton (3/1) are also credited with an interest.

Mikkel Damsgaard – 6/1

The man who finally broke England’s remarkable run of clean sheets at Euro 2020 has been tipped to make a summer move.

New Sampdoria coach Roberto D’Aversa admits the Danish international could leave, with Tottenham (3/1), Aston Villa (4/1) and Liverpool (7/1) also in the market.

Matheus Cunha – 8/1

The Daily Star recently reported that Leeds were keen to wrap up a deal for the Hertha Berlin midfielder in time for the start of the season.

SkyBet ranks Bielsa’s side as the favourites (8/1) but considers Everton, Eintracht Frankfurt and Liverpool among those also interested.

Sander Berge – 12/1

Sheffield United’s record signing is expected to leave this summer following their relegation to the Championship.

The Blades are reportedly holding out for the £35m release clause in the Norwegian international’s contract, with Arsenal considered the favourites at 5/2.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 16/1

The Arsenal academy graduate is again being linked a move away this summer, following a loan spell in central midfield for West Brom last term.

Leeds are considered relative long shots for the 23-year-old however, with Burnley (2/1), Wolves (6/1) and Leicester (8/1) seen as the most likely destinations.

Brandon Williams – 16/1

The young full-back found his game-time at Old Trafford limited last term, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly now open to a loan exit.

Norwich (2/1), Southampton (3/1) and Newcastle United (8/1) lead the betting market, with Leeds, Crystal Palace and Wolves all considered outside bets.

Ross Barkley – 18/1

The Chelsea midfielder is reportedly available again this summer following a mixed loan spell at Aston Villa.

Leeds are one of a number of Premier League clubs linked, with Newcastle United and a return to Everton considered the most likely moves for the 27-year-old.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 18/1

The future of the Liverpool midfielder has come under scrutiny in recent weeks, with Southampton reportedly keen on re-signing the England international on loan.

The Saints lead the market at 2/1, ahead of West Ham (5/1) and Newcastle United (8/1), with Leeds considered relative outsiders.

Houssem Aouar – 22/1

A central midfielder is a priority for Leeds, but the bookmakers’ link to the Lyon playmaker looks ambitious.

Especially considering the other names on the list, with Arsenal (11/10), Tottenham (4/1), Liverpool (10/1), and Manchester United (16/1) all listed.

Dwight McNeil – 22/1

The Burnley winger’s future has been the subject of almost constant transfer speculation in recent seasons.

Aston Villa and Everton are considered the clear frontrunners in the race for the 21-year-old, with odds of 5/2 and 3/1 respectively.

Eduardo Camavinga – 25/1

Something of a speculative one. The Rennes teenager has reportedly caught the eye of a host of Europe’s elite clubs.

Leeds find themselves as the long shots in the market, with PSG (7/2), Manchester United (4/1) and Arsenal (10/1) considered the frontrunners.

James Ward-Prowse – 25/1

Aston Villa have already had one bid for the England international turned down, with reports indicating a second could soon follow.

Dean Smith’s side are considered the clear favourites at 8/13, while the otherwise long odds for all other clubs suggests Villa Park is the only possible destination for Ward-Prowse this summer.
