Harvey Elliott sends message to fans after serious leg injury sustained against Leeds United

Harvey Elliott has thanked supporters for their best wishes after sustaining a serious leg injury against Leeds United.

The Liverpool midfielder was stretchered off the pitch at Elland Road after a challenge from Pascal Struijk, which saw the defender sent off.

After lengthy treatment, Elliott was taken to hospital to assess the injury, which left his Liverpool team-mates and Leeds players visibly distressed by the teenager’s condition.

Elliott has now sent out a message on Instagram thanking those that had messaged their support to him, whilst in the ambulance on the way to hospital.

On his Instagram story, he wrote: “Thank you for the messages guys! Road to recovery, YNWA.”

Initially, referee Craig Pawson waved away claims of a foul but the immediate reaction of team-mate Mohamed Salah indicated the severity of the injury, with Elliott receiving lengthy treatment on the field before being stretchered away.

Sky Sports refused to show any replays of the challenge, such was the graphic nature of the tackle and Struijk was sent off after a VAR review.

Leeds were already trailing 2-0 after goals from Salah and Fabinho, with Sadio Mane adding a third shortly before the end of the match.
