Gary Busey’s rep is giving the actor the benefit of the doubt after he recently pulled his pants down in public view.
“Gary often sits on the bench in front of his home to meditate and look at the ocean,” a spokesperson for Busey, 78, told Page Six on Tuesday.
“Our only guess is that perhaps at his age, he realized he couldn’t get to the bathroom in time which explains what happened in the video of him on the bench.”
Paparazzi caught the “Point Break” star pulling his pants down across the street from his home in California on Saturday, a day after he was charged with sex crimes.
Busey’s rep stressed to Page Six that the bench where the incident occurred is located on privately owned property.
However, Page Six has confirmed that the incident occurred in public view as that is how the video was captured. Page Six has also verified that a street separates the bench and Busey’s house.
In video footage, Busey is seen sitting on a bench near his home in Malibu with his black sweatpants by his knees as he looks around with a smile on his face.
The actor appeared to cross his hands over his legs before untying his pants so that he could pull them back up properly. It remains unclear if Busey dropped them because he needed to relieve himself. But this isn’t the first time he has removed his pants in front of others.
Busy appeared in the UK version of “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2014 and got into a heated argument with several housemates for taking his pants down during filming.
“When my knee pops out on the lateral side, I sit down and restrap the knee. You haven’t been to the doctor,” Busey said on the show, explaining why he pulled his pants down. “You haven’t had a bad knee.”
In the paparazzi video from Saturday, Busey does not appear to adjust his knee, but we could not confirm if he was experiencing a similar issue.
Busey’s latest episode comes after facing allegations that he groped two people at a “Monster-Mania” convention in Cherry Hill, NJ, earlier this month.
On Friday, he was charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact, one count of criminal attempt/criminal sexual contact and one count of harassment as a result of the allegations.
Busey sustained injuries in a near-fatal motorcycle accident in 1988 that, according to his loved ones, altered his demeanor.
He suffered severe damage to the frontal lobe of his brain as a result of the crash, which made him “more impulsive and prone to anger and delusions of grandeur,” according to a 2019 Hollywood Reporter profile.
“The post-accident version of him turned his personality up to 11,” Busey’s eldest son, Jake, said at the time. “I feel like I lost my dad on December 4, 1988.”
