Friends and neighbours have raised over £2,000 to help pay for the funeral of Leeds nurse Eileen Barrott.
A crowdfunding page set up by Sarah Callaghan has raised just over £2,200 in just a few days.
The money will go towards funeral costs and support the children of mum-of-two Eileen, who died after being found with serious injuries at home.
Her husband has been charged with murder.
Sarah Callaghan, who set up the JustGiving page with the intention of raising £500, said she had been “overwhelmed” by people’s generosity and thanked everyone who had donated.
On the JustGiving page, she paid tribute to Eileen, calling her a “caring soul that lit up a room with her smile.”
She wrote: “Eileen Barrott was one of a kind. A kind, caring soul that lit up a room with her smile.
“She loved to chat and gained many friends throughout the (Leeds health) trust.
“Eileen seemed to know everyone and made an impression on everyone she met. Her sudden passing has left many shocked and saddened.
“I would like to raise money to help support her children to give her the send off she deserves.”
Eileen, who worked at St James’ Hospital, lived on Naburn in Whinmoor, Leeds.
She was found injured at the family home on Sunday.
Donations to the JustGiving page include a generous £300 given by her neighbours on Naburn Fold, with the message: “Deepest sympathies from all your friends and neighbours from Naburn Fold.”
Eileen’s husband, Mark Barrott, has been charged with her murder. He is due to appear before Leeds magistrates court charged on Monday August 23.
