Emmerdale Victoria Sugden actor’s real life ‘secret co-star fling’ that sent shockwaves through the cast

Emmerdale actress Isabel Hodgins is known for her portrayal of troubled Victoria Sugden in the long-running ITV soap.

Hodgins secured the role in 2006 after the production team decided to replace the established character of Victoria Sugden with a more mature actress.

The character of Victoria had been in the show since 1994 and had been played by Jessica Haywood between 1994 and 1998 and later Hannah Midgley from 1998 up until 2006.

In an attempt to change the character, it was decided the role should be re-cast.

Hodgins was quickly recognised and was nominated for ‘Best Newcomer’ at the TV Choice and TV Quick awards in 2007.

She has also been nominated for multiple other awards including the ‘Spectacular Scene of the Year’ award at the British Soap Awards 2007, ‘Best Young Actress’ at the Inside Soap Awards in 2008 and ‘Best Dramatic Performance from a Young Actor or Actress’ in 2009.

Her character has been involved in a truck smash, a romance with her step-brother, she ploughed her car into a vicar and has fallen in love with her husband’s transgender brother.

And it seems her life off-screen isn’t without a dose of drama either, from her relationship with her Emmerdale co-star and the secret fling that divided the cast.

She was also caught up in the Manchester Arena bombings.

Isabel’s love life has, at points, been just as confusing as that of her character. The star had a dramatic romance with one of her former co-stars Michael Parr.

The couple got together after meeting on the Yorkshire-based soap when Michael joined the cast as Ross Barton in 2013.

Initially they began dating in secret a couple of years after Michael landed his role and kept their romance relatively low-key, The Mirror reports.

They revealed their secret relationship in 2016 after posting pictures from the same places during a romantic trip to Paris.

Michael also posted about his love for her on her 24th birthday, writing in a post: “Happy 24th birthday to this little one. Who woulda thought that 5’2 (and a half) could pack so much love, devotion and attitude.

“Thank you for being the most wonderful and caring best friend a boy could ask for. Love you to the moon and back. X.”

However, their relationship was rocked by rumours of Isabel having a ‘secret fling’ in 2016 with another one of her co-stars – Danny Miller.

According to The Sun, news of the fling apparently caused great tension on set with many of the Emmerdale cast ‘siding with Michael’.

“The revelations caused arguments among the cast who split into two camps over who to support,” a source said at the time.

ITV declined to comment and none of the three parties involved addressed the claims directly.

Isabel and Michael remained together until they split in 2019 after three years together and just months after he left the soap for new opportunities in America.

A source told The Sun: “They drifted apart and felt it was better to be mates. He has been throwing himself into his social life and has just been on a lads’ hol and she is focusing on work, they’re both young and want to follow their dreams.

The insider added: “They had a meaningful relationship and they’ll remember the good times.”

In July 2019, newly single Isabel explained she is an old-fashioned girl at heart and any would-be suitors had better be prepared to put the work in.

The actress confessed you would never catch her on Tinder – although you might spot some of her Emmerdale colleagues.

“I personally wouldn’t go on Tinder – but I know there are people here who are. It is harder to meet someone when you are in the public eye,” she told The Mirror.

“Someone could meet you and then find out later you are on the telly and that might change things.”

The 27-year-old has been at the centre of plenty of eventful storylines over the years, but away from the Dales it’s totally different.

Though there was one harrowing day when she found herself at in the middle of what would be the year’s most devastating real-life story, The Mirror reports.

The star and her pals attended the Ariana Grande concert back in 2017 which caused shockwaves across the world.

Witnessing the devastating Manchester terror attacks, Isabel was mercifully leaving the arena when the bomb detonated.

It killed 23 people including the attacker, and more than 1,000 were wounded.

She said: “We were all leaving and then there was a big bang to our left. Everybody ran away from that immediate area.

“We didn’t know what had happened. People were screaming and running, but then it died down.”

Isabel added: “We didn’t know if a balloon had gone off, because balloons had been released in the concert, so we didn’t know if it was that.

“Everybody was panicking. There was pushing up the stairs. People were obviously running, climbing down and over the chairs.

“As we got out, everybody was screaming and crying, and then the corridor was full of – it smelled of burning, and there was quite a lot of smoke as we were leaving.”

Nobody will ever forget that day, but thankfully she had family there for support.
