Emmerdale star Amy Walsh has announced that she is expecting her first child with partner Toby Alexander-Smith.
The soap couple, who met in the audience of Strictly Come Dancing in 2019, are now busy preparing for their new arrival, the Mirror reports.
Amy told OK! magazine that she is excited to be a mum, especially as she had worried that she might not be able to get pregnant.
The 34-year-old actress was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome when she was 20, so had concerns that it would affect her fertility.
She said: “It feels as though the way everything happened was meant to be. I thought I might struggle with fertility, so for pregnancy to happen quite easily and when I wanted – I was gobsmacked. We feel incredibly lucky…”
She continued: “I always thought falling pregnant was going to be a battle. Toby knew how worried I was, especially as I’m a bit older.
“I did wonder if it would ever happen for me, so it feels like a blessing.”
Toby, who is best known for his role in Eastenders, said: “There’s never a perfect time. You could always think, ‘We could do with a bigger house or investing more time in our careers,’ but if you’ve met the right person then that’s it.”
Amy is the sister of Girls Aloud star Kimberly Walsh but has found fame in her own right as an actress.
She plays Tracy Metcalfe in Emmerdale while Toby plays EastEnders villain Gray Atkins.
She added of her pregnancy: “It’s always something I hoped and prayed would happen at some point.
“I’ve enjoyed being an auntie, but after meeting Toby I felt like I really wanted a child myself.”
The pair revealed they began trying for a baby and were delighted to find out Amy was pregnant after just two months.
Amy and Toby are used to their on-screen lives hitting the headlines, but their exciting baby news means they are now in the spotlight away from the cameras.

And the happy couple can’t wait to become new parents, especially Amy who revealed she was feeling broody around her sister’s and friend’s children.
Amy revealed she is “so excited” that her and Toby are set to become new parents and that it felt “magical” when they found out the wonderful news.
The soap stars met in November 2019 and soon hit it off before a blossoming romance followed.
Toby was in the Strictly studio audience supporting EastEnders co-star Emma Barton who was on the hit BBC show.
And Amy was there too cheering on former ITV co-star and eventual champion Kelvin Fletcher.
They moved into together after just months of dating, so they wouldn’t be apart when the coronavirus pandemic hit.
The leap of faith paid off with the couple happier than ever before and thrilled to be starting a family.
Toby and Amy’s baby is due at Christmas time and both actors can’t wait to start the next chapter in their lives.
